Addition to an existing order
The Smith House designed by Richard Meier in 1965 is a classic example of modern architecture, and this project's aim is to take it to the next level. The design philosophy focuses on creating spaces that not only meet clients' functional requirements but also provide an enhanced experience. The use of metaphors and analogies within the design process ensures every element of the design communicates its artistic ideas.
Narrative
The Garcia family felt inspired to make new additions to their recently bought home from the Smith family. Mrs. Garcia is a big nature lover, her hobbies include gardening and bird watching. The Garcia family requests that the original design of the house is to be respected. The new additions include a roof garden, master suite, exercise room, and family room. Mrs. Garcia requests she would like to have a rooftop garden. She would love to have her flowers and vegetation to have a space in the house to show her family and guests. The rooftop is also important for the plants because they receive the perfect amount of sunlight needed. She would also like to use this space for birdwatching as it provides a great view of the nature around them. Aside from this, Mr. Garcia requested a master suite for more privacy because their in-laws will be moving in with them soon. He also requested an exercise room where he will be able to train for his next mountain climbing trips. Last but not least they have also requested a family room to have a separate space for family and visitors to feel more relaxed to hangout.
Meta Idea/Hierarchy
The idea of flowers was chosen because of Mrs. Garcia's passion for gardening and nature. The rooftop garden she requested was the most important space because this is where she can show her amazing gardens to guests and family according to the request for additions to their home. The flowers can be defined in many parts throughout the new addition to the home to represent its importance.
