Heuristic: Formal Language

  • Swiss Air Building Influence

  • The Grotta House

In our design, we drew inspiration from Richard Meier’s Swiss Air Headquarters in Melville and the Grotta House in New Jersey, integrating their formal language to inform both structure and spatial organization. From the Swiss Air building, we adopted Meier’s use of clean geometric order, modular grids, and a strong sense of axial alignment, which guided the overall composition and circulation of our project. The Grotta House influenced our approach to light, transparency, and material expression, emphasizing a dialogue between solid and void through the interplay of glass and white surfaces. By combining these principles, our design reflects Meier’s modernist clarity while responding to the site with a balanced composition of openness, structure, and light.
